Media Technology for Film and Television Production Sets (AEC – NWY.18)

General Information

This new twelve (12) month intensive program leads to an Attestation of Collegial Studies (AEC) and includes a six (6) week internship in the film and television industry.

The fascinating world of film and television production is actively looking for highly competent technical personnel. The most sought after jobs are in the following departments:

  • Scenario....shooting script
  • Image....assistant cameraman, cameraman
  • Television....video operator, focus puller, assistant director
  • Sound....boom operator, sound man, sound mixer
  • Light....gaffer, best boy electrician
  • Editing....video editor, sound editor, DVD designer
  • Set designer....assistant, art director, set decorator

Program objectives
To teach the trades of a production set, making sure that the student fully comprehends the use of all equipment used both on an exterior or interior set. The spirit of teamwork will also be clearly emphasized.

The student will become familiar with each and every job on a set for feature films, television productions, video-clips and corporate videos. The student will understand every step of the production process, from the basic idea to the final product.

Internship on sets or in production companies

At the end of the program, students may be offered a 6 (six) week internship within the industry. Opportunities will be offered to work on sets in production companies, in equipment rental companies and wherever productions are produced. Students will acquire valuable hands on experience which is aimed at helping the student obtain employment.


O’Sullivan College’s TV Studio

The Media Technology for Film and Television Production Sets Program has its own television studio. The studio is equipped with 11 High Definition (HD) Sony cameras and 19 Standard Definition (SD) cameras, a control room which includes a Tricaster HD video mixer and a professional lighting system.

The students also have access to two media labs with computer work stations for video editing and sound editing, as well as a soundproof room to record voices and sound effects. Basic computer knowledge is preferable. The software taught in the program includes AVID Media Composer, Sony Vegas, Final Cut Pro, Digidesign ProTools and Sony DVD Architect.

The college also has a multimedia projection room for the viewing of student films.


Special agreement with Mels Studios

Thanks to a special agreement with Locations Michel Trudel, the students benefit from a unique experience of producing a short film in super 16 mm format on location in the studios of La Cité du cinéma.
